Chapter Six
Lionel
Iâd managed to make my way to the kitchen. It was stuffed with food out on platters and arranged for serving. Right. Lightmass, I thought. A day to remember oneâs ancestors and fallen friends and lovers on the eleventh day of the eleventh month. It had to be about two or three in the afternoon, and I wondered when the party would get started and how best to escape from it if it had.
I went to the fridge to get some water. It was days like these that I appreciated Metatronâs tendency to keep the fridge well-filled. I pulled out a bottle of lemon water. The fridge door fell shut, and before I even managed to take a drink, I damn near jumped out of my skin. âWhat the fuck!â
Some dude was standing where the door had hidden him a second ago, just like in a disgusting horror movie where you had to scream and run to survive.
âHello, pretty one,â the guy said while his eyes roamed all over me and metaphorically undressed me.
âThe fuck are you?â I asked. It took everything not to take a step back.
He had blond hair and brown eyes. Their color should have made them warm, but they were not.
âIâm Michael,â he said. âYou are hurt.â He looked at my hand, and I was very aware that the ungulate with the broken hoof was always jumped and murdered first by the hungry lions. I took a step back after all, the primitive part of my brain overriding my horror movie wisdom. âCome here and let me kiss it better.â He came toward me, smirked. âOr let me make you feel it even more, until you scream for me.â
âFuck, no,â I said and grabbed the bottle hard. Iâd brained zombies, and Iâd brain this asshole too. Metatron liked her water bottles shatterproof.
âMichael, this is not where the party is,â Lucifer said from the door. His voice was sugary as buttercream frosting. It made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up while I also breathed a sigh of relief at seeing him.
Michael turned. âThis morsel wandered, and I just wanted to bring him back to the flock.â
Lucifer strolled past Michael and toward me, wrapped me in his arms, and kissed me. On the mouth. Which I hadnât even rinsed, once. Ugh.
âThis is my boyfriend, and if you dare so much as touch him, Iâll take your hand, and when I do, it will not grow back.â Lucifer looked down at me, not at that Michael guy. He was warm and his spicy scent of comfort made me relax. I leaned into him.
âYou would not even share?â Michael asked.
At that, the dragon mother tsked and walked into the kitchen as well⦠still totally naked. But I was so out of fucks to give at this point.
âMichael,â she said. âGo be elsewhere.â
Michael looked pissed, but he left with one last look at me.
Tiamat, though, approached, her green eyes taking all of me in, so much like Michael had, and yet nothing like that at all.
